Fun in Hat Yai

Day 1

One weekend, my brother decided to do something that is quite crazy, he suggested that we should travel to Hat Yai by car from Kuala Lumpur. I mean, I don’t think many are willing to do that, it’s such a long drive!

Without thinking much, we packed up and off we go in our sedan, on one rainy December morning. It took us almost 8 hours to reach, thanks to the busy custom checkpoint.

But hey, we made it!

By the time we reached it was time for dinner, and we decided to head off for ‘authentic’ Thai street food for our first meal there. The Greenway night market is a huge night market nearby our hotel. When we reached there, the first thing I noticed was how big the prawns there. Seafood has always been better and fresher in Thailand for sure.

It was a long tiring day, so we decided to call it a day early.

Day 2

Spontaneously, on the next morning, we decided to visit The Khlong Hae Floating Market which is located about 20 minutes from the city center. One can get goods from the boat sellers and there were a variety of food and clothes. However be warned that the food sold here are quite repetitive. The boats are stationary, and one just shopped along the length of the pier. I would recommend this market for Muslim tourists as the food sellers here are all Muslims. We only toured this place for less than an hour as it was hot and humid and the food didn't really interest us.

And then, we managed to catch a cultural dance performance by the local people.

Next, we decided to get to Magic and 3D Museum Hat Yai. We spent about 2 hours plus at the Magic and 3D Museum in Hat Yai, to explore the magic instruments used by magicians as well a picturesque in 3D. It was great place to snap a few great shots. At the entrance, a simple magic live show using coin inspired many others to try it ourselves at home. There was a live show inside the museum but be prepared to spend extra time there to enjoy the live performance of a well-known Thai magician of all time. We enjoyed our time there more than what we expected.

It was an interesting weekend indeed in Hat Yai. Then, we decided to move on to the next location in Thailand. Stay tuned for our next post!
